One and a half miles east of Melrose, at the edge of Newstead village lies the site of Trimontium Roman fort. The site is now agricultural land, with undulations in the landscape giving subtle clues as to what lies below the surface.

In the heart of Innerleithen lies this gem of printing history. Robert Smail’s Printing Works is an operational letterpress printers and an important part of Scotland’s industrial heritage.

Perhaps the most beautiful of all the Border Abbeys, the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey are remarkably complete and surrounded by beautiful grounds.
